April 6, 2001, Newsletter Issue #32: Prepare to Battle the Parasites

Tip of the Week

If you allow your cat outside, you need to take measures now to control the Parasite infestations.

Most pet owners know about fleas and ticks; however, intestinal worms, heart worms, and skin infections are other worries for pets that go outside.

Cats can contract ticks and fleas by walking through infested areas such as your yard or the vacant lot down the street.

Ticks are attracted to water sources such as ponds, streams and creeks, so if you live in an area such as this, be very wary of ticks on your cat.

Your kitty contracts intestinal parasites from the ‘litter box deposits’ of other cats and from eating animals they kill.

Cats contract heartworms from mosquitoes, so if you live in a typically heavy mosquito-populated area you should get your kitty tested for heartworms.

With Spring around the corner, now would be a good time for a Summer Check up, so your vet can give you all the necessary preparations to combat parasites.
