April 9, 2010, Newsletter Issue #314: How to Remove a Tick

Tip of the Week

The easiest way to remove ticks from any animal is to use a pair of tweezers.

Grab the tick with the tweezers as close to the animalīs skin as possible; this will insure that you remove the head as well as the body of the tick.

I have had better luck if I use a quick, jerking motion, rather than a continuous pulling motion, since this could separate the head from the body of the tick.
